In Language & Literature, MYP1 created literal interpretations of famous idioms for the camera. An idiomatic phrase is one which has a meaning to native speakers of a language which is not derived literally – for example, when the English say that it is raining cats and dogs, there are not any household pets literally falling from the sky. Similarly, for Czechs in a downpour, it is said to be ‘raining wheelbarrows’, for the Greeks, ‘chair legs’ and for the Irish, it rains ‘Shoemaker’s knives’.

So, whilst learning about the use of idiom in language, MYP1 thought it would be fun to try to represent idioms visually – and literally!
